Easter Décor in 30 Minutes or Less!

Sometimes I just need to craft. It seems that even though I am making more of a physical mess, the mess that is inside my head sort of just clears up. I just love this reverse canvas technique. I love it because I can start AND finish a project all in one sitting. What’s not to love when:

  • The frame is already built (just hidden under the wrapped canvas!)
  • It has a rustic look
  • The canvas is ready for your design, it only needs to be painted if you don’t want the canvas color!

Here’s how I did it:

While the Cricut was busy cutting the design I created on Adobe Illustrator, I was busy preparing the frame. I ran an X-Acto knife on the back, but I am sure you could remove each staple individually to get the canvas off.

Start staining the front and all of the edges- don’t worry too much about the back. I like to use a rag to stain, but I also used a little paintbrush for the smaller crevasses.

It never fails, even when I wear gloves I somehow always manage to stain my hands. This time it was because I took my gloves off before I started touching up the inside edges. I’ll never learn!

After I adhered my design to the canvas, I set the frame on top of the canvas and positioned it where I wanted it inside the frame. There will be lots of canvas hanging over the edges that we will trim off later. Right now we can use the excess with tape and adhere it to the front of the frame, this will help keep the canvas in the right place when you flip it over to put staples in.

I started stapling one side at a time; continue to staple in various places, turning the canvas and pulling tight before each staple.

All that’s left to do it use the blade or scissors to trim off the excess canvas! Done!

Optional: I stained a piece of a cotton ball and glued it to the canvas for the bunny’s tail. The stark white cotton ball was too white for this project so I dipped it in a bit of stain and mushed it around on the tarp until the majority of the cotton ball was stained. I also toyed with the idea of giving this bunny a bow! Burlap string or ribbon would be cute!

Here’s mine displayed in a couple of different places!
